Sarre Castle was purchased in 1869 by King Vittorio Emanuele, who made it his headquarters for hunting expeditions in the valleys of Cogne, Rhêmes and Valsavarenche. At the behest of his successor, King Umberto I, the hall and gallery were decorated with 3612 chamois and ibex horns.
The Parish Church of San Maurizio reveals its ancient origins in the Romanesque bell tower with double and triple lancet windows arranged on three levels. It houses sacred art objects of great artistic value such as wooden sculptures, goldsmith work and fabrics.
The "Strada dei Salassi", the ancient route of pre-Roman origin that connected the Gran San Bernardo area to the upper Aosta Valley, also winds partly along the Sarre hill, in correspondence with the new panoramic road.
